Orthopaedic Associates of Saratoga Launches Monday Clinic in Malta for Urgent Care for Athletes’ Sports Injuries: Call 518-682-2100 for Same-Day Care

Healthcare News for Immediate Release

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (September 6, 2006) – Orthopaedic Associates of Saratoga (OAS) is launching an innovative Monday Sports Injury Clinic designed to enable athletes – especially students -- who injure their bones or joints during the weekend to see a sports-medicine specialist promptly.

Family and sports medicine specialist Robert Nielson, MD, will see injured athletes who call on Monday the same day, in OAS’s new offices at the Saratoga Sports Medicine Complex, 2388 Route 9, just south of Northway Exit 12. A board-certified orthopaedist also will be available to see surgical referrals immediately, when necessary; x-ray facilities are on-site. A special OAS number has been activated for individuals wishing to see Nielson on Mondays: 518-682-2100

Nielson has advanced credentials and dedicated experience in sports medicine:

Medical Participant, National Short Track Speedskating Championships
Olympic Team Trials, World Cup Speedskating Championship
USOC Volunteer Physician program Lake Placid Training Center
Medical Participant, World Cup Luge Championship
20 years of experience as a school district physician
NYSPHSAA Class C Football Quarterfinal & Semifinal Medical Coverage
Albany River Rat Hockey Medical Coverage
Additional training in cycling science and ringside medicine
Member American College Sports Medicine and USA Boxing
A primary care provider may need to approve the appointment, depending on the patient’s insurance.

According to OAS managing partner Lawrence H. Fein, MD, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports-medicine specialist, “Calling Monday morning for an appointment may save injured athletes up to a week of waiting for a regular appointment. For student athletes, that can mean a disappointing period of being sidelined. Anyone with emergencies such as broken bones or unmanageable pain should seek immediate care at the hospital, but the Monday Clinic is ideal for students and adult athletes whose sports-related strains, sprains, and injuries to knee, shoulder and ankle that occur during the weekend, but don’t require emergency attention.”

Follow-up medical and rehabilitative care will be managed by OAS, with primary care physician support.
